Physician Assistant -Hand and Plastic Surgery

NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, located just 15 minutes from NYC, is an acute care teaching hospital academically affiliated with Weill-Cornell Medical College. Dedicated to providing high quality patient care to a diverse community, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln is a NYS designated Level I Trauma and Stroke Center and has Centers of Excellence in all medical specialties including its awarding winning Cancer and Breast Centers.

Responsibilities

Highly technical and demanding skills are mastered through years of PA practice, master's degree and post graduate critical care residency.

  • Understands reimbursement issues
  • Understands patient insurance plans and communicates withinsurance companies in writing
  • Attends at least one plastic surgical CME offering a year
  • Maintains skills of the Primary Care PA
  • Consults with product and pharmaceutical representatives
  • Performs wound checks, suture anddrain removals
  • Performs minor surgical procedures without in-roomsupervision
  • Performs consultations in the surgeon's absence
  • Takes call
  • Dictates operative and discharge summaries

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work closely with all surgeons within the department and maintain excellent working relationships with contributing departments.
  • Performs 1st assistant duties
  • Has excellent suture skills-equal to that of a surgeon
  • Has expert knowledge of anatomy
  • knows the latest surgical techniques
  • Contributes inventory of all necessary plastic surgical supplies andprostheses
  • Writes orders in Recovery Room, ICU and floor
  • Follows patients and writes daily progress notes
  • Maintains clear communication with the attending surgeon and any consultants regarding patient status, both pre and post discharge

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Current NYS Certification as a Physician Assistant
  • BLS
  • 1-2 years of acute care experience preferred
