Physician Assistant (Multiple openings/Multiple shifts)

Besides providing administrative and human resources services, PAGNY also fosters an environment in its partner hospitals that allows healthcare professionals to identify and implement best practices across institutions; promote training, academic and research opportunities; develop multidisciplinary integrated clinical service lines; build new systems of care; and address the impact of anticipated major changes in the nation's healthcare system.

With approximately 60,000 admissions per year and 10,000 average daily population in twelve jails citywide, the NYC jail system is among the largest in the nation. The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation is responsible for the delivery of medical and behavioral health care, social work services, discharge planning and reentry services 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. CHS is a national leader in the delivery of health care to the justice-involved population and works continuously to improve access to, and quality and continuity of, care within the jail system.

We will be hosting an Open Interview Day for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Mental Health Clinicians and LPNson Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 49-04 19th Avenue, 1st Floor, Astoria, NY 11105.

Responsibilities

  1. Complete comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions including completion of master problem list (MPL) with diagnosis, lab, and EKG contraindication form and medication list where applicable
  2. Perform O.A.P. notes on patients requesting sick call, schedule follow-ups and update medication orders. Update any deficiencies on the MPL.
  3. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesse Evaluate the need for consult services and submit the prioritized consult when indicated.
  4. Review all on island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital re Evaluate to ensure that the standard of care is met and implement the recommendations of the consultant.
  5. Implement plans for patient care utilizing protocols approved by the Medical director and/or treatment plans reflecting the current standard of care.
  6. Respond to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner
  7. Be familiar with performance indicators (P.I.) and take appropriate measures to comply with these standards
  8. Perform chart reviews and summaries on all transfe Update the MPL, rewrite medication orders (getting them countersigned) and resubmit consults as needed.
  9. Request radiology exams, lab-test, EKG’s when indicated and interpret these results with the patient’s clinical All results should be reviewed with the supervising MD or Chief physician.
  10. Notify the staff MD and Urgicare about 3hour runs and EMS trips.
  11. Complete and submit all encounter forms on a daily basis
  12. Witness, sign, and document patient healthcare refusals
  13. Complete special housing rounds when assigned
  14. Review laboratory results and document in the medical chart as necessary.
  15. Generate medical modifications as needed
  16. Generate special needs tracking forms as needed
  17. Maintain clinical competency by reviewing PHS protocols, current medical literature and M.Es.
  18. Ensuring that all progress notes and orders are countersigned before the end of the shift
  19. Assure that standard of care is maintained.
  20. Adhere to policies and procedures of PHS and be familiar with them by reviewing them as needed
  21. Maintain your tour schedule as directed with particular attention to punctuality and timely notification of absence
  22. Maintain all required credentials
  23. Maintain current licensure and CME requirements.

There are multiple positions and multiple shifts available both weekday and weekend Full time and Part time

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree; some work experience required.
  2. NY State Licensed Physician Assistant
  3. Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
